Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?
By Trevor Hartley
The label “good” people is a prevalent statement, we hear a lot about many people we know or hear of, maybe the question should be “why does God allow bad things to happen to sinners”. This is a reminder about who we are in a world of sin, a world which has good and evil. A person labeled good by men’s standard, but it is not God’s standard, a good person is still going to have some form of suffering or will face evil in his or her lifetime. A person labeled good is not exempted from bad things happening to him or her Romans 3:10-12. We live in a world with freedom of choice and a potential for good and evil, where anything can happen to anyone at any time. God said he is the only one that is good. Based on God’s standard man is not good. Luke 18:19
We must ask ourselves how good we have to be before God decides that bad things will stop happening to us. Do we know anyone who is holy or sinless? Only God is holy and sinless.
God always has a purpose when bad or good things happen to someone including Christians. Let us look at the story of the prophet Job who was considered to be a good servant of God. But the Devil wants to test him before God, and God allowed a series of bad things to happen to Job including the death of his children.
We find a testing of Job faith but Job didn’t understand why, but said the Lord giveth and taketh away Job 1:21 Remember, no one is perfect or good enough to be free from bad things happening to that someone. There are no degrees or any rule of measurement by God that will determine what bad or good thing will happen to someone. God can also test our faith, Hebrews 11:17-19
